Various Artists "Unschooled Records Compilation V1"
music from the Unschooled Records label.
Enter on doofgoblin's flailing robofunk craziness of "Frazed" (2:32), where shards and streams collide against spasticated rhythmics. Lower-key bleep frenzy "Interlude" is gradually infiltrated by a speckly-to-pounding rhythm, courtesy of 1st Class Lounge. More floatable, the cool dreamorgan grooves of "Calomel" soar as Plan-29's sweet musicality refracts in and out of focus, impelled by throbs and scattered percussion. Lovely!
From the swishy vortex of "Goyle", cool metal guitar and rockhard drumbeats bludgeon a murky bleepathon. Whacked by hammering hits, chaotic synthsplurts go "Totally Elephants" in this twisted circus caper from Carbon Based Life Form (aka label-leader Howard Hecht). Underscored by sharp rhythms, Sonic Wallpaper's dreamy/dancey "Subloop Thud " (7:29) unfurls celestial instrumentalpop vagaries which coalesce into swirling sweetness.
Powdermonkey's weirdly gurgling "In from The Cold" emits space-movie theremin wavers, deformed voices... then shifts to a bass-heavy speed-along, peppered with stealthy beats... fun! Unexpectedly delicate "Electronic Seal's Paradise" sparkles and chimes in winsome trickles, bumped around just a bit by Naton Rozenburg's spacious rhythms... such prettiness makes rapidly-spewing "Squiggle (Lost Within The Curves)" by Turbogeek seems all the more frenetically disjointed.
Other artists are: Decomposure, Cloudscapes, A Bit Crusher, Mercurial, and Natu Visu.
Bright, colorful electrosounds from various artists introduce a new label; enter: unschooled records compilation v1.0 delivers 14 tracks in 67 minutes, giving a fairly broad spectrum of new "voices" a chance to be heard. Nice work overall, with a few standout stunners! B+
